CAT EYES

You Can’t Escape From This Look  …

HISTORY

The old Egyptians were fascinated by the cat eyes. The shining of the eyes in the darkness and the alteration of the pupil were interpreted as relationship with the sun and the moon.

EYES OF THE HUNTEr

Cats hunt mainly at dusk – the eye has adapted accordingly. Even in bad light, the cat can look outstanding. The pupils can expand strongly, so more light can enter the retina, which contains light-sensitive vision sticks. The incident light is amplified again by a reflective pigment layer (Tapetum lucidum). This is also responsible for the illumination of the cat’s eyes in the dark, e.g. from a flashlight.

The eye of the cat is protected by three eyelids. An upper movable and a lower immovable. The third lid – the nick skin – is a thin membrane in the corner of the eye. It ensures that the eye is always adequately supplied with tear fluid.
